Dear Pam,

Here's the link on kellymom.com for sensory integration issues which includes
Cathy Genna's excellent article on same (full texts can also be found on LLL
site as well as medela's where her article appeared).
http://www.kellymom.com/babyconcerns/bfhelp-baby.html

Would this mom consider CST or osteopathic treatment? A referral to an OT or
SLP (occupational therapist, speech/language pathologist)? Even if it could
be baby's reaction to oversupply issues, it is still pretty extreme and the
fact that baby doesn't signal to eat nor does well with solids is suspicious.
How does baby react to being held? To interaction with others and have
developmental milestones been reached?
I'd also want to know how baby fed in first few months, choking, gulping,
stridor- which could signal anatomical difficulties such as tongue tie, or
swallowing issues. You mention that he had difficulty breastfeeding in the first
two weeks so wonder if it could be anatomical for baby who was able to get by
with mom's plentiful milk supply.

Poor mommy, it's so difficult for her to have a baby who seemingly rejects
her by rejecting breastfeeding. She deserves lots of praise and support for all
her efforts. Please, let us know what you find during your home visit and
hopefully sometime soon baby and mom can enjoy breastfeeding.

Warmly,
Barbara Latterner, BSN, RN, IBCLC
