Hi, Lynn. Hale's book categorizes DDAVP as L2 for lactation risk ("Drug
which has been studied in a limited number of breastfeeding women without
an increase in adverse effects in the infant. And/or the evidence of a
demonstrated risk which is likely to follow use of this medication in a
breastfeeding woman is remote.")

Further, he says, re: DDAVP:

"Unlike natural vasopressin, desmopressin [DDAVP] has no effect on growth
hormone, prolactin, or luteinizing hormone.

"Following intranasal administration, less than 10-20% is absorbed through
the nasal mucosa. This peptide has been used in lactating women without
effect on nursing infants. In a study of one breastfeeding mother
receiving 10 mg twice daily of DDAVP, maternal plasma levels peaked at 40
minutes after the dose at approximately 7 ng/L, while milk levels were
virtually unchanged at 1-1.5 ng/L. Because DDAVP is easily destroyed in
the gastrointestinal tract by trypsin, the oral absorption of these levels
in milk would be nil."

He shows no reported pediatric concerns.

Hope that helps!
