Mother Finds Tiny Metal Fragments In Baby Formula

http://www.turnto10.com/consumerunit/6504210/detail.html
January 27, 2006

WEST WARWICK, R.I. -- A local mother says her baby's formula had an
unexpected ingredient: tiny metal fragments.

Tammy Tryon was mixing up a bottle of 'Enfamil Gentlease' baby formula for
her 2-month old, Skyler, when she discovered tiny fragments in the bottle.

"I'm heating it up, and then all of a sudden there are metal fragments at
the bottom of the bottle, and I don't know what that is," Tammy Tryon said.

She then called the company, then NBC 10's Audrey Laganas.

A spokeswoman for Enfamil's parent company, Mead Johnson, said the can is
the likely culprit.

The can is coated with aluminum to protect fingers. The spokeswoman said
it's rare, but occasionally, it gets complaints about fragments from the
packaging coming loose and getting into the formula.

The company has shipped the product Tryon is concerned about to its lab.

The spokeswoman said the test results aren't back yet, but if the fragments
came from the packaging they are not harmful.

"I was completely mindblown," Tryon said. "I don't understand it, that they
think that's OK for a baby to have."

(that's the complete article, but there is a video clip at the link above)
