There are guidelines that have forced hospitals to charge for "courtesy stays" an amount equal to going hotel rates unless the stay is essential to the patient - such as pediatrics where parent is required to stay or night-before-discharge rooming-in. In those cases, meals are provided. Otherwise meals have to be charged for. At least that's what I've been told.

Subject: Question

Currently I am on a team that needs me to ask the following question - unless you feel your response is beneficial to the group you can reply to me privately.

For hospitals in the USA, specifically the NICU's, does the hospital provide meals in any way for the mom's that are breastfeeding/providing breastmilk? To be more specific, this would be the mom's that are no longer in-patients themselves and what my group really wants to know is; if this is done, how is it funded?
Thanks Much, Jodie Drum RN, IBCLC & at work in Washington, D.C
