Jay asked about antihistamines for allergies while breastfeeding. As a
long term allergy sufferer (formula fed of course!) this was a major
concern of mine. My children have all nursed into toddlerhood so I've
spend many an allergy season nursing. I also didn't feel comfortable
taking antihistamines for the reasons Jay mentioned.

In discussion with my allergist, we decided to try a corticosteroid nasal
spray, Beconase, in my case. For me, this has worked wonderfully and I
never noticed any adverse affects in my babies. I also felt good about
the medication being mainly confined to my nose, not throughout my whole
system.

Maybe something like this would be an option for other allergy sufferers
who are breastfeeding?
