Those short tight frenulums seem to come several at a time and then I go a
long while without discovering any. In the past 3 weeks I have found 5!
Usually they come in 3s. Most of the Peds have been very receptive to getting Mom
help. Usually they refer out when she leaves the hospital. But one Ped called
in a Pediatric ENT. She was great! I assisted her with the frenotomy. She
likes to give a little injection to help with the pain but personally I think
that was the painful part! The Peds I know who do it just clip the frenulum.
Then there is always the Ped who tells the Mom that frenotomies are
unnecessary and some new TREND that seems to be happening....just tough it out, your
nipples will get tougher! When I found out what he said to her I asked her how
she felt and she stated she wanted to seek help on her own. Turns out Dad is
a Physician at a Sleep Lab. So they both wanted more info. I told them about
Brian Palmer's website and I gave them two referrals. I had even left this
Ped a long note about how this baby wasn't transferring well at the best which
would mean poor growth, constant feedings, a Mom who already had to pump and
rest her nipples after two days, etc. I have had some parents totally go along
with their Ped and of course Mom ends up not nursing due to the pain. I had
one Dad who was very concerned about it and didn't want to go along with
it.....but yet the baby had been circumcised!!
