In December I posted about a mother I was working with who had been
diagnosed with possible placenta accreta. The baby is nearly three months
old now, receives about a litre of expressed breastmilk each day, and is (of
course) thriving. Following a second D & C it seems that the bleeding has
stopped - finally - but a further scan showed that there was "scar tissue"
on the uterus and the suggestion had been made that if she were to have a
period, then this could be "cleared". But in order for this to happen the
OB suggested that she would have to wean/stop lactating.

She is going for another check up with the OB next week. I reminded mom
about the health benefits to herself and her baby of long-term
lactation/breastmilk feeding. But in the meantime, just to be sure, I said
I would ask the experts their opinion about whether weaning would really be
necessary in these circumstances!

Thanks in advance and hoping that this is just another of the more exotic
examples of sacrificing breastfeeding on the altar of ignorance ...
