wow, another great opportunity to work in "sacrificing breastfeeding on the
altar of ignorance." let's see, what would be accomplished by forcing this
mother to wean because she has mono. her baby would be deprived of additional
immunities to mono produced by the mother in her milk, which would be
important since the baby is already exposed to the disease. also, the mother
and baby would be deprived of an important part of their relationship
unnecessarily. and while i am quoting the absent dr. newman, let's not
forget, "it's the mother's decision to wean, no one can force her, only
provide information and let her decide." perhaps someone needs to ask the
doctor for some literature supporting a need to wean. how could i have
studied and read all the things i have seen so far and never seen a reference
to this? (yes, i agree there might be circumstances in which separation might
be useful, a sick preemie or immunocompromised child, etc., but this ain't
it).
