Hello all,
Valerie's, your posts are very interesting and thought provoking. Living in
a 3rd World country, patenting of drugs and the ethics behind it is an
issue that comes up in the media every once in a while and something we
cannot ignore.
I am posting with some questions: shouldn't patented breastmilk components
eventually be mentioned in the WHO Code? Has this issue and how it affects
the marketing of substitutes been addressed by the WH Assembly? Will it
ever be addressed?
I believe that genetically engineered milk is the next frontier in
substitutes, and all this research and patents are only stops along the
way. What will happen when something very close to breastmilk comes from a
goat, or a cow, with the "right" amount of DHA, ARA, lactoferrin, etc?
Shouldn't we be talking about this now?
I know, lot's of questions.
