Hi all,
I have a mom 3 weeks postpartum (delivered by c-section) who put on about
40lbs during pregnancy. She called me about baby being fussy at breast and
falling asleep while nursing. I gave her some suggestions to try, however
baby is already being formula fed at least half time so I assume this could
be a supply issue. I saw her the other day and I couldn't even tell she had
been pregnant. Mom says she has lost almost all the weight she put on. She
continued to say that she just isn't hungry and has little desire to eat.
Mom is about 5ft 7inches and 120lbs (prepregnancy)
My question: Could the rapid weight loss be responsible for the baby being
fussy and/or sleeping at the breast? I know that dieting while breastfeeding
can affect milk volume. Should I be concerned about the weight issue? Or
just deal with supply issue?
Thanks,
Donna LLL leader Alaska
