Hope no one minds my 2 cents...Coming from both "sides of the fence" in a
number of circumstances...we do define our own successes.  Nursed my first
little one (now 29!) a grand total of 2 weeks with many challenges and
without support; would probably not only call it today a failure but an
abysmal failure of an overall trial of breastfeeding.  The fact that I made
it thru those two weeks was a success.  The other four nursed from 9 mos to
2 1/2 years and those were fraught with challenges, yet I consider the
experiences with them successes.

As a CNM, I used to cringe at the words "failed VBAC", "failure to descend",
"failure to progress", and humbly suggest an alternative.  Often we are
instructed to "call it as we see it" so rather than labeling something a
success or failure, how about "unable to achieve latch related to ..." (fill
in the blanks as needed with...ankyloglossia, etc.) or breastfeeding
terminated (sure there might be a better word there) ? deferred? related to
painful nipples, lack of support, medical indication (list it), or whatever
is appropriate?

If it helps, failed VBAC simply became "History of cesarean section"
followed by "trial of labor" followed by "cesarean section or delivery".
