Friends of Breastfeeding,

I just got back from the Capitol and Congresswoman Maloney's press
conference. I thought I would share my impressions since I don't think it
will get a huge amount of press coverage.

I am a LLL Leader and went to the conference with 2 co-leaders and 2 of our
group members and our 8 kids! We were lucky that for whatever reason the
kids were GREAT , no crying, fighting, etc. There were several other
mothers and babies/toddlers present to here the introduction of the bill.
There were a good number of press people as well, although most appeared to
be print media.

The congresswoman told about the goals of the bill and then had three other
speakers. One was from the AAP and was really great, very enthusiastic.
There was a mother from Michigan who had been fired because of her decision
to pump at work. There was another from Maryland who had been told that
she would have to put in a hlf hour more of work each day even though she
was pumping on her own time.

We (my friends and I ) enjoyed being a part of this process and are hopeful
that this bill will get support throughout the House and Senate. The story
was carried on the local ABC (WJLA TV Washington, D.C.) affiliate at 5:00pm
but not on the network. Call your local ABC affiliate and ask them to run
it. It was a great piece. It had obviously been in the works for some
time because none of the footage was from today.
