I know this is getting widely off-topic, but as the commercialism of medicine / pharmaceuticals is being discussed, I'd like to add a few euro cents worth of ideas. Homeopathic products are also sold to people and I understand that the selling of homeopathic products is a billion dollar business around the world these days, just like pharmaceuticals (although I admit not knowing any exact figures, and I don't know who's winning on the sales figures!). Many companies are making millions of dollars by selling homeopathic remedies. I do know that our local health-food store stocks the most amazing amount of homeopathic remedies and that the small counter of conventional remedies (the paracetamols etc) in the local chemist fails into insignificance in comparison.
I'd also like to add that homeopathy came into being in a time when much about conventional medicine, disease etc was only beginning to be understood, a time when people would often die from a 'conventional' treatment. By its' nature, homeopathy did not have to run the 'gauntlet' of doing more harm than good.
I'm not out to 'flame' peoples beliefs (as we all are entitled to our own) but I think that the commericalism of alternative therapies is not always considered, that conventional medicine always gets the bashing on this front. And yes, sometimes, often, it may deserve it.

(Pure skeptic when it comes to homeopathy - that's my entitled opinion!)
