I have to get in on this one, though I sighed and told myself it was
too silly when I first saw posts discussing the merits or evils of
this acronym. First of all, the near hysteric worries about what a
mother would think if one used this term to describe formula to her
face is simply preposterous. This, after all, is a discussion group
for *breastfeeding professionals* and anyone who took the term SIN to
a patient or customer would not only be doing so unethically but also
just plain dumb; obviously this acronym, Synthetic Infant Nutrition,
is meant to be used as a somewhat tongue-in-cheek jab at the formula
companies, and only among kindred spirits here on this list.

After all the smear campaigns, ouright lies, manipulation of images
of brerastfeeding in advertising, and other down and dirty techniques
used by the big guys of formula production and sales, one little
acronym demonstrating how we feel about the whole thing seems
innocent in comparison.

It's funny. But obviously don't use it outside of breastfeeding
advocacy circles. And if you find it offensive, for goodness sakes
don't use it at all. But don't mandate that we can't use this clever
acronym to efficiently demonstrate our frustration with a product
that really does kill babies-- and by the way, yes, it is poison, when
it has the ability to deform or depreciate human beings' normative
physiological, mental, and psychological, and cognitive outcomes.
And people make billions off this endeavor. That truly is a sin.
