Who did/what was the study that concluded/suggested that interest in sucking
during the first hour peaks at 30 minutes after birth?

Have used research on optimal initiation of breastfeeding. Hospital
guidelines are that breastfeeding is to be initiated within the first hour
after birth. So, the standard of care is that it should occur the birthing
room. Very interested to read others' comments on this.

We must be doing an OK job of prenatal ed in the area of breastfeeding
initiation: A group of PACU nurses recently commented to me that they have
too many incidences of husbands asking "can she breastfeed now?" as his wife
is vomiting or feeling dizzy on arrival to the recovery room after a c/s
birth. Guess we may need to add some gentle suggestions on being a little
more flexible/adaptable in certain situations.
