Karyn-Grace,
Frenotomy will lead to palate expansion in young breastfeeding babies,
but not in older children. The bones are already more formed. But
orthodontia is a "second chance" to widen the palate if the orthodontist
uses maxillary expansion. Maxillary expansion needs to be done in the
preteen years, before the bones of the palate fully knit together in
midline, so your son can't make up his mind to do this later.

My own son bf adequately once we managed to get positioning and
unlimited access down, but had speech articulation problems and sleep
apnea by the time he was 10. Dr. Palmer sent me some articles on
maxillary expansion for the palate to help the sleep apnea and other
related problems, and we had that done at 11. It was not pleasant for my
son, but it eliminated the sleep apnea and sleepiness in school. We also
did a frenotomy and tonsilectomy simultaneously to give him a better
airway while the maxillary expansion took place. His speech was perfect
2 days after the frenotomy, after 7 years of speech therapy improved but
failed to correct it! (And not one of his many speech therapists ever
noticed his very obvious tt).
