Dear Lactnetters, Pain is a very personal topic . The comments have all been
valid, because everyone comes from their own paradigm or point of view. I
believe that this is spiritually based. We are all at different points in our
spiritual evolutions. Pain, be it physical or emotional, has a purpose,
wether it be to warn us of danger or take us to deeper territories in our
search for the self. I have what I consider a high tolerance for pain as I
suffer from Endometriosis. However, I have noticed at times when I am
emotionally drained or fearful, my physical pain seems worse, more intense.
When I make a conscious effort to understand the root of my pain and let it
go as deep as it needs to go and breath into it, I experience some relief.
When I hold onto or try to block the pain it becomes intolerable. Of course,
I am guilty of taking handfuls of Anaprox when my life is too busy to take
care of myself and my cycle sneaks up on me. Perhaps it is important to
remind our mothers that they should not be experiencing nipple pain and to
contact someone asap for help if they do.Monday her pain may be a 5 on a 1-10
and Tue, her husband could say something cutting or cruel to her and her
physical pain could become a 9 because she does not have the emotional
reserve to cope with her pain. Of course, it is an important tool because we
do need do have a baseline to work with. I think we must recognize that the
experience of pain is complex. I worked with a woman a few weeks ago who had
the classic circular cracks at 12 oclock from poor latch and thrush. We
corrected the latch and gave her Genitian Violet, F/U call one week later,
thrush s/s gone, cracks gone, couplet happily EBF. This mother had good
support from her husband and I couldn't believe how patient she was,
Mothers/Women are amazing, Lisa Mooney
