Nina says about test weighing:

<<It cannot tell us how
much milk an individual healthy baby, whose mother is experiencing
commonplace feeding difficulties, needs or whether the volume of milk taken
is adequate to meet those needs.>>

I certainly agree with you, Nina, but my hunch is that the vast majority of
us that are using ac/pc weights (HATE the term "test" weights) are NOT using
it for "commonplace" feeding difficulties. Most often we are using them
because we have an infant who is not gaining appropriately or is having huge
feeding difficulties. I find it immensely useful in my practice -- but in my
practice, I am seeing problems -- not the common garden variety, but the more
unusual problems.

Perhaps you are concerned with "routine" test weights? I don't know that
anyone is doing that, but I could be wrong.

I don't think the moms I work with find it a *test* of their worthiness --
they are eager to see what the baby is doing (and I always couch it in those
terms....'let's see how the baby does when she's feeding' rather than 'let's
see how much you are making'.) They are coming to see me because they know
something is wrong, and they want some answers. If the baby is gaining well --
they won't be in my office, I can assure you. And if the issue is sore
nipples or yeast and the baby is gaining, then we don't need to do ac/pc weights.
