I recommend that you get back to the person in the dental dept on this
issue. Be very polite and agreeable. (I know you will be :)) Say to her that
after talking with her you began to do some research to see if you were up
to date on what practices are now being recommended. Show her what you found
(get the most prestigious refs) which could include AAP recommendations,
Acad. of BF medicine, BFHI whatever re the use of water. Then there are lots
in the archives on dental caries (Brian Palmer is one writer) and bf. Ask
her to read the articles like you've read them and get back to you on this.
Ask her to give you any articles she has read that you might have missed.
Then you should be able to come to a consensus with her.
Re the MANY MOMS who bf x 2-3 years w/o solids: surely you can go thru your
records if you have them, or ask the nutritionist to give you an idea of
length of bf in your community and age of solids. You could even do an
informal survey of the local LLL group or other bf support group and get a
picture of when solids are intro'd. Surely this would shed some light for
her on what really goes on.
