I have permission to post. I have a mother who will deliver in July. She had
a motor vehicle accident in grade school and subsequently a blood clot in
brain and what they called a stroke. She has overall left sided weakness and
also decreased sensation including nipple. She has virtually no use of her
left arm. I spoke to her and husband briefly after a bf class, so do not
have many details. She does not use any adaptive equipment but has
funcitoned using her right arm.
I am thinking a sling and nursing pillow would be helpful, and possibly
consulting an OT to help with adaptive issues r/t feeding baby. I think bf
will be easier than bottlefeeding so I'm glad she is choosing this. Due to
infertility history and no sensation on left side (you can even tap her
shoulder from behind and she does not feel this), there may be milk supply
issues.
Any ideas, suggestions, experiences are welcome as I prepare. Mom gave me
permission to share her story and get any ideas.
