It happened I was at work when I heard that Jean had died. Just as I have
sent grateful thoughts her way every time RPS works to help a new mother
deal with engorged entry, I will continue to do so. I can hardly remember
what working post partum was like before RPS, but I certainly remember the
first mother I tried it with, under close email guidance from Jean who
always shared her knowledge without hesitating. The mother was a friend of
mine and she had an entirely unmedicated and undisturbed home birth.
Engorgement can affect anyone.
It's been so good to be part of a community of people all grieving for our
loss. I will say I think it is good that she was able to stay involved with
her passion until the very end of her life and I hope she did not suffer
unduly during her last day.
I'm not sure who the others were who midwifed the JHL article on RPS, but
I'm proud to have been on that particular team too. In Norway we call it
Cotterman's maneuver because they is no good way to say RPS. I look forward
to hearing her name many times a week, though it will be difficult if not
impossible to hold back tears for å while when I do.
My warmest thoughts go to Jean's family, who have lost a great matriarch.
