Chris,
I work at a tiny community hospital (between 200 & 250 births a year) that is
Baby Friendly. When I started working there two years ago, a remodeling job
was just being completed. We have 6 LDRP rooms, no nursery (the room called
that is tiny and only used for circs and taking newborn photos!)
One thing I can tell you is that the rooms are not soundproof, sometimes the
doors are not even closed, and you hear all sorts of sounds when women are in
labor!
Our childbirth education classes support women being noisy. They are told
labor is hard work and that noises may be part of it. We've even had parents-
to-be touring the facility while this is occurring. The nurses take it in
stride and their attitude is catching. It is no longer is disconcerting for
me to hear their sounds when I'm at work there.
