Karen,

I have had silicone breast implants for over 10 years now and have
successfully breastfed 2 children. As far as I know my implants are
intact although one side does feel smaller than the other. All of this
to say that I am involved in a study by C.A.T.S. (Children Affected by
Toxic Substances). They are monitoring healthy mothers and their
babies/children to see if there is any affect to them by nursing with
silicone implants. When I was breastfeeding my first child C.A.T.S. had
me send them a sample of my breastmilk to analyze. What I have found out
so far (they won't release too much information for fear of jeopardizing
the study) is that my breastmilk did contain some silicone though NOT any
more than a woman who did NOT have silicone breast implants. We take in
silicone through foods and makeup daily. This mother may want to express
her milk and find a lab who will analyze the silicone content before she
does anything else. Based on my experience and research the amount of
silicone that enters the breastmilk is minimal as with many other
substances and drugs.

Also, are her implants are behind the muscle wall or behind the breast
tissue? That might make a difference.
