Hi Netters,

I wanted to mention that the BF Working Committee consisting of Dr. Ruth
Lawrence, Dr. Audrey Naylor, Rona Cohen, Lois Arnold, Dr. Hamosh, Dr.
Larry Gardner, some one from CDC and someone from FDA, and a few others,
met a year plus ago. They had decided that for the normal newborn, the
milk that was left over after a feeding could be refrigerated and refed to
the baby again. This was suppose to be writen up in a position paper, but
never made it. Hopefully in 1998, we will see it done. I know this
because I have been pressured by the "outside" to change the Medela
tear-off sheets for the collection and storage of breastmilk to include
that information. Being the one that writes the tear-off sheets, I was
reluctant until further research was done. I personally tell people that
ask me what they should do with leftover milk, "Refrigerate it and give it
ALL to the baby". I hope to be able to change it in writing, next year.
Two years ago tomorrow, I was having brain surgery. The good news netters
is that I had my FINAL brain MRI at U of Chicago Hospital last friday.
Results show a big empty space on the right side, meaning no tumor regrowth
and still no brain either. I was hoping maybe some of my brain might have
grown back. God knows I could sure use one. The neurologist took me off
all medications. What a Christmas present and true miracle. I thank
Larry Gardner again for the Dr. and hospital referral that saved my life.
I feel like all of you (those that did) went through it all with me.
Thanks for your support.
