Sue, I agree that most young women do not have a clue about the realities of
babycare, feeding, and how we will feel about the baby. This is a big topic
in the new moms group I facilitate. Expectant moms planning to return to
full-time, outside the home, work/career in a few short weeks, initially come
to group stunned by fatigue, adjustments with spouse, and lack of confidence
in their abilities in mothering, and in a few weeks come to group in tears as
they anticipate leaving the baby for many hours of the day. About half are
able to change plans, or negotiate with employers.
On the other hand, living with the consequences of decisions is one of those
adult things expected of us. Real dilemma.
You can have it all, just not all at the same time. ( who said that?)
