Time for another update...

my little guy with the BIG cleft palate (not lip) was in yesterday. He has
been gaining acceptably on expressed milk via Haberman. (Plus fortifier
ordered by primary pedi. Her milk supply dropped drastically at about 2
weeks, but Domperidone has brought it back wonderfully.) She has been
nursing him when she is able (Has 2 other kids and husband works the night
shift.) She has found that he latches best with her standing up, and him
held diagonally across her body! She came in yesterday to try an SNS. This
little guy took 45 cc through the SNS and about 10 cc from mom in 45
minutes. (Yes-standing up! SHe can't hold hiim at the same angle while
sitting) This mom is SO determined...didn't bf her first 2 at all. So she
is going to be pumping as before, and getting the same 3 oz per feeding into
him via tube +/- Haberman, but is SO happy to have him at the breast. I
showed her a sling, thinking it would help her hold him while standing, and
it turns out her sister-in-law gave her one, but she hadn't known what it
was! So, we'll see how it goes.

And on a side-note...I've clipped 5 tongues in the past 2 weeks! (One set
of identical twins!) And another little guy was in yesterday with a
submucous cleft AND a moderate tongue-tie, and weight-loss at 1 week of age,
so if we can't get him turned around I'll probably end up doing him, too!
Amazing.
