I have what I think is a challenging question. I have client that gave blood
a couple of years ago and when it was screened they told her she had LVT2
virus and that it could be passed on through breastmilk to her baby. She is
now pregnant. She went to see a genetics person and they told her that
although she carried this virus..there is no danger of congenital problems,
illness's etc that either she or her baby could acquire but she was told she
probably could not breastfeed because she would pass the virus on to the
baby. This is where I get lost.....If she already carries this "virus" of
which there are no symptoms, illness etc. and she is already pregnant, how
will breastfeeding her baby put the baby at more risk? She is going to send
me the letter that she received from the blood bank on monday and I will
follow this with the contents of the letter. Any one out there ever heard
of this LVT2 virus? She breastfed her first baby and really wants to
breastfeed this baby but is getting all kinds of mixed advice from the Doc's
here.
TIA
Donna
PS
Some of you may remember that my cat refused her kittens and I was told by
the VET to bottle feed them...Well, they are 2 weeks old now and cute as
could be and thriving on "kitty milk" My cat has learned the art of
breastfeeding very well. <g>.
