I saw the mother in my office. I didn't see the puffy white areola that she described (shows why it is so important to SEE the mom while feeding!), but I did note that at the base of her nipple on the areolar tissue, it was slightly raised and swollen. Both nipples appeared slightly purple even BEFORE the feeding started. At the end of the feeding, the nipple was immediately purple in appearance, then turned white. This is a little different from the description of Raynaud's, where the nipple has white vasospasm first, then the purple color.

Baby's latch looks terrific, and there are no problems with frenulum or receding chin. No tonge retraction. We did alleviate some of the pain with improved latch depth, but it was still very painful during the feeding. She is going to work on the latch for the next few days, but I will be inclined to call her OB to advise the use of Nifidipene if I can't find any other way to alleviate her symptoms. Suggestions?
