Hi Marianne
I am also a member of a volunteer mother support organisation. I would
encourage you to encourage your organisation to be present at the sleep
seminar you mentioned that is to be sponsored by a formula manufacturer. We
have discussed this long and hard in our organisation and decided that it is
important that we are present at such events to give mothers and
professionals another point of view - and to point out loudly but politely
the rubbish that is on offer. I don't think it compromises our integrity to
advertise alongside our competitors. Furthermore it gives you an opportunity
to know your competition. Write to the organisers and express your
disappointment with their sponsorship decision. Take material on the risks
of artificial feeding. Take material on the risks of chronic elevated
cortisol levels in infancy. (In english Beth Macgregor and Annie Gethin's
book Helping your Baby to Sleep, Margot Sunderland, Research work by Helen
Ball, anything James Mckenna ever wrote.) And take your blood pressure
medication- you might need it!
