Hi Sarah,
I do not see an immediate connection between gall bladder issues,
constipation, and milk supply. Thyroid seems a likely thing to check
with constipation, and my understanding is that to find out about the
thyroid function, sometimes the very simple screening labs are normal,
and yet the client does indeed have thyroid problems on further (more
thorough) testing. Therefore, if mother has other s/s of thyroid
problem, I would have her see an endocrinologist, if she can, to
really look into that.
There are so many things that can contribute to low production, the
book you mentioned is quite excellent and helps one to be a detective
and figure it out.
In a roundabout way, I can see how gall bladder or other GI issues
could affect production. If a mother is not able to utilize the
nutrients in the food she consumes, due to gall bladder disease,
pancreas disease, or if she just cannot eat properly at all due to
stomach or gall bladder problems, then sub-optimal nutrition could
contribute to milk production problems. This would not be a typical
scenario, and I would certainly look for more common reasons, e.g.
tongue tie, infrequent feeding patterns, breast hypoplasia, meds would
be some examples.
