Dear Heather,
Please reassure this Mom that her baby is fine. My own experience was
with my second child who doubled his birth weight at 10 weeks (8lbs. to 17+
lbs.) Our Pediatrician (well known as a breastfeeding supporter) was very
worried about excess fat cells and adult obesity. He wanted me to force my son
to take water in a bottle, cup or spoon instead of nursing on demand. I had to
go for weight checks weekly x 4 weeks to make sure he was slowing down. I
ignored the advice and he continued to gain (20lbs. at 4 mos., 25lbs. at
6mos.) As soon as he started walking he slimmed down. The "fat" baby is now 18
years old, 5'10", 150 lbs. and starting college. Breast is always best.

Warmly,
