This may not be your mom's problem, but I also experienced pain in my breasts with my 3rd child.  I thought it was thrush, but in the end it turned out to be underlying muscle pain.  I was carrying the car seat out to the car and lifting it up to the middle of the back seat every day.

Once I just took the baby in and out of the seat, and left the car seat in the car, I felt much better.  Using a heating pad also helped.
