I am hoping the Breastfeeding Support Project that I coordinate will begin a
collaboration with a federally funded program in my community called Healthy
Families. This program provides home visits to families they have assessed
as being high-risk for child neglect and abuse. These families are
recruited at the time of their child's birth. I would like to do some
training with their outreach workers so that these workers are supporting
breastfeeding among their clients. I also hope to encourage referrals to my
program which also provides home visits. It seems that not too long ago I
read something on Lactnet about a relationship between breastfeeding and a
reduced incidence of child abuse. Is there a reference for this? I would
like to have this when I go to speak with the Healthy Families Coordinator
to suggest a partnership. I think she would be very interested in reading
anything I could find. Any help from anyone knowing about this research
would be appreciated.
