This is a "shande" we would say in Yiddish -
a scandal, an embarrasment. How many women are
out there who are willing to donate milk and
we make it difficult for them? These are new
mothers offering the best gift they have to
help others heal. We as a society should
be bending over backwards to make it possible
and easy for them to do so.
What is being done to make milk banks a priority
on the national health agenda? Instead of 6 inthe
country we should have at least one in every major
city. Does CDC have this on their radar screen?
What about the US breastfeeding committee, state
depts of public health, etc. etc. How can one
get information about the public policy/political
issues in milk banking. How does it work in other
countries?

OK I'm off my soap box, but I really am interested
in learning more about this issue and pursuing it.
As breastfeeding becomes more accepted and "normal"
I hope there will be an outcry for milk banks from
many sectors and we should be ahead of the curve,
leading this effort!
