I agree with everything that the other posters have made regarding Baby-Friendly status at military hospitals.  And I would add that there is *no* reason that they cannot do so, and in fact military hospitals have been Baby-Friendly in the past (and looking on the BFHI website right now, I see 2 that are currently) for the very reasons that have already been mentioned.

And to jump on Diana's bandwagon...I concur that having *ALL* the military hospitals go Baby-Friendly and have that order come from the *top* would go a long way towards making breastfeeding a reality for military mothers and military spouses alike.  It should fall under the DOD directive 1010.10 that states in part that the military must "promote any and all healthcare related practices that impact readiness"  I can't think of one that impacts readiness more than healthy breastfeeding mothers and babies!
