Someone asked why moms pump when they are exclusively breastfeeding.

I did this, here's my short story. I had 2 bad breastfeeding relationships
as a result of poor support with my 1st 2 children. I would have an ample
milk supply and always lost it a few months in. When my 3rd came along I was
going to breastfeed no matter what, and I had learned a lot about why my
past attempts failed. I was still scared of the past though so I bought a
large freezer to store my milk in, and tons of glass and plastic bottles
from friends. I was going to nurse my baby, and pump milk to store for when
I lost my milk. Well I never lost my milk, in fact I was feeding my baby AND
pumping 630 ounces a month just to relieve the fullness (not scheduled, just
pumping when full. I could pump over 8 ounces, sometimes 12ounces PER breast
at a sitting).

When I had over 1,000 ounces of milk stored and my baby wouldn't take a
bottle, and there was no end in sight I donated. There were times that I had
no one to donate to and I still pumped hoping to find someone before the
milk expired. My 3 year old also like my milk in his sippy cups, so he
received a bunch that way. Sometimes he would hold his cup up to me while
pumping waiting for me to fill it.

So that is one reason why a mom may pump even when exclusively
breastfeeding.
