Are epidurals done for the convenience of the doctor during delivery?
Does this result in a larger insurance reimbursement to the doctor?
Do veternarians give any domesticated mammals epidurals for delivery or
would it be insanity to do so?

My chiropractor made an interesting comment when I told him I adamantly
refused an epidural with my two births. He said that the needle
ingecting the drug was unbelievably larger (forgot the actual
dimensions) than the nerve it was to hit. It made as much sense as
putting a shotgun barrel to a strand of hair and trying to inject it. I
guess there's lots of
blow-by.

I wonder if its like getting novacaine. The whole quadrant of the mouth
is saturated with anesthetic. Does swelling of the tissue cause some of
the the actual numbness of the nerve? Could an anesthesiologist
respond?
