Regarding this saying: "If crying is good for the lungs, then bleeding is
good for the veins."...

Just to make trouble, I guess, I have issues with this saying. I don't
disagree that extended periods of crying are stressful for families, even
harmful both short and longer term. But, that said, sometimes babies cry, as we
all do. It's normal and healthy to be able to cry and express our emotions
when they overwhelm us. It may not be good for the lungs, and extended or
frequent crying is bad for the brain, but it's not a non-physiologic state,
in and of itself, whereas bleeding is a non-healthy physiologic state. Skin
has been breached, or tissues damaged. Blood does its work staying inside
vessels and moving well around the body. So, I know I'm being picky, but I
don't like it...:) I know this saying is trying to help parents get away
from the common message that letting a baby cry is good for them or that
letting a baby cry or putting a baby alone in a room and virtually causing
them to cry without respite is not only not good for them but may be bad for
everyone, so I do understand the rationale. I just don't feel totally great
about the exact wording.

Just my weird thoughts of the day...
Peace,
Judy
