Dear everyone, sorry this is not a breastfeeding question, but I'm hoping
(?hopping) there is a rabbit lactation consultant out there!
My children's himalayan dwarf rabbit had her first litter of babies
yesterday. We haven't had experience with baby rabbits before. Today, the
count is one dead and three alive. She doesn't seem to spend much time with
them - leaving them covered with hay with she feeds herself. This seems
abnormal to me. A mother cat would never leave one day old babies like this.
Is this normal rabbit behaviour? Is she rejecting them? I haven't seen her
feed them, but my husband thinks she has fed them earlier today. I tried to
get one to latch on (!) while I was stroking her (which she likes) but she
started struggling. Anything we can or should be doing? Thank you!
Lisa Amir.
