Hi,
I'm Beth, and I'm a certified breastfeeding educator (thru Debi Bocar's
program) and an ICCE and doula. I'm stuck in a common-sense forsaken SW
corner of OK.

Had a lady call me last pm needing support and information about bf with
inverted nipples. Babe is 10 days old, has been primarily fed via bottles
(augh!), mom has been wearing shells and pumping. She uses the pump to
evert her nipples before offering to the baby, but baby is sucking for a moment
then crying and pulling away. She said that her nipples are everting after
pumping, so it seems like the main problem now is nipple confusion. I
suggested she pump to get her nipples everted and milk flowing then put baby to
the breast as often as she can.

Should she start using a cup instead of the bottles?
Is this good improvement in 10 days of pumping and shells?

I'll be talking with her today, and see if I can go out and do an assessment.
(I'm an indy, so it makes it a little harder)

Any suggestions would be appreciated--please CC me as I'm on the digest.

Thanks,
Beth Johnson, CBE, ICCE, Doula
