Does anyone have any information on this condition? My sister-in-law
delivered at 35 weeks a 4.12pound baby girl. She is a leukemia survivor, and
we know that the chemo had damaged her heart. I do not know if this
weakness is the origin of the misfunction. She had a general anesthesia and
I do not know if that contributed to the problem.

Sadly, breastfeeding was the least of the hospital's concerns; in the 12
hours before the misfunction occurred, no one initiated pumping or any
breastfeeding protocol. And it seems to have fallen completely out of the
picture now.

If she responds to the cardiac medication, she could recover quickly. Or,
she could be looking at the opposite end of the spectrum and require a
transplant. While she needs to stabilize, and that is our first hope, is
there any chance for breastfeeding under these horrific circumstances? Baby
is receiving formula through a GI tube, and no one is with this baby.

If you know anything about this condition, and/or how it will impact
breastfeeding you can post or email me privately. I apologize if this is
not on-topic.
