<And the push to sell pumps has meant many mothers buy them before giving
birth, thus use them, instead of seeking help with bf problems.>

jennifer, i'm posting on behalf of magda as her computer is out of action.
i've read her your post she says she agrees and will be happy to debate this
when she is back online.

The Breastfeeding Network set up 3 1/2 years ago and one of our earliest
statements was that we wouldn't make money out of parent's infant feeding
choices. it feels better to be independent of any organisation with a
commercial interest in infant feeding especially as we can be in situations
when it may be an option we are discussing with a mother. in the UK pumps
are not as accessible or affordable as they should be for those who need
them urgently - particularly those whose babies are in special care.

<Without breastfeeding, breast pump companies would go out of business.>

katie - i agree that pump companies are not the same as formula companies
but they are still a business whose interest is promoting a means of giving
breast milk to babies not the support of uncomplicated breastfeeding

normally much happier to lurk and learn here
