OK, I just dug up the toxins levels that was measured by Dr Rogan's study
with my first child.
These are the Ages and levels:
                               PCB DDE
Milk at birth 49 28
6 weeks 25 15
3 months 25 14
6 months 22 14
9 months 43 33
12 months 19 10
18 months 15 10

Cord blood -- 31

Blood at birth 11 4
at 6 weeks 19 12
placenta -- 15

The rise in PCB at 9 months was explained to me as a result of being exposed
to heating oil.
We were told that even exposures to plastics such as plastic warp and
microwave dishes could result in human exposures. And that heating oils and
fuels were a major source of exposure. I was told my levels weren't very high
because I didn't grow up or live in an agricultural area where I was exposed
to crop chemicals.
As you can see, the levels decreased significantly over the course of nursing.
Blood tests were not done on the babies that I can remember. We had
development tests given to the children up to kindergarten ( including the
one where they give the toddler a bottle and a baby and ask her what to do
with it--my first failed that test but I cheated and taught it to my second
the morning of the test. But he failed the part where they showed a sewing
needle and asked what it was for. He replied- a splinter remover).
We had to mail in their report cards up to high school and the kids
themselves had to fill out puberty reports throughout puberty. Just guess the
accuracy of asking a 12 yr old boy to self report the size of his penis! Or a
12 yr old girl to self report the size of her breasts!
I guess we weren't the best test subjects!

Barbara Whitehead, IBCLC
Eastern NC ( yes, I was nursing a 18 month old in 1980! And she was walking
and talking at the time! That really qualified me as a radical!)
