This discussion brought to mind an experience I had last year. One of my
relatives has had extensive treatment and many hospitalizations for
Irritable Bowel Syndrome, complete with bleeding, etc. I remember that as
a child, his parents kept goats on their farm because he got excema from
homemade formula made of evaporated cow's milk.

He has also always been one for reading on whatever alternative
treatments for whatever ailments he's interested in, such as chelation
for atherosclerosis and others. He of course, tries to "win" me over to
reading his newsletters on health and miracle working "non-mainstream
medicine" approaches, though he has avoided surgery so far by being
placed on Prednisone.

I decided to "turn the tables" on him last year when I heard him mention
the fact that cow colostrum was being sold in health food stores. I
suggested a trial of human breastmilk, and told him I knew a very
reliable co-worker with a freezer so full of it she didn't know what to
do. So he accepted enough for a week.

I later learned that it stayed and stayed and stayed in the freezer till
his wife finally threw it out. Though I never asked him up front, I
suspect it was too much of a psychological hurdle for him to think of
swallowing that "ew-w-w-w!" human milk, (although he was very pleased
that his daughter had earlier breastfed all her babies long term.) Maybe
it was just too "un-macho" for him.

It has since occurred to me that perhaps I should have just taken over
some instant pudding made with the human milk, and perhaps not even have
told him about it till after he ate the first dish of it!!!
