In desparate need of advice for this mother(permission given for
posting). SVB at term to a dedicated breastfeeding multi. Baby boy has a
significant tongue tie, which was assessed by a speech therapist and
referred to an ENT (appt. this week). Baby is now 4mths old and has good
weight gains. Mother has had recurrent bouts of mastitis and
subsequently, developed a large galactocoele. An ultasound showed an
encapsulated cyst, and also a ?fibroadenoma. Needle aspiration resolved
galactocoele and biopsies were taken from the "mass". Results showed
atypical cells, and mother elected to have the lump removed. This past
week she is leaking copiously from the incision site. Swabs and sample
showed no infection. Another ultrasound 2 days ago revealed a fistula.
This mum is nearing wit's end, but is reluctant to wean, as has been
suggested by the surgeon. I have suggested she feed from the unaffected
side only, until the fistula heals. Then she can try and re-lactate at a
later date from that breast. Does anyone have any other ideas I can
suggest to this mother. She will be away for the next few days with Jacob
at the ENT specialist.
TIA for your wisdom
