Dear Lacnetters,

As you might know, I belong to a Dutch bfeeding organisation (Verenigin
Breastfeeding Natuurlijk) or VBN. Like most bfeeding orgs we have a magazine
that comes out four times a year and the editiors of this mag. are always on
the lookout for fresh material. In the next issue there should be one or two
pieces about bfeeding outside ones own culture (or country). When I heard
this I thought that maybe this could be an ongoing feature of our mag. Thus,
maybe we could get some input from those people (mothers and health
professionals / bfeeding counsellors) who experience what it is to
breastfeed in different cultures. Do these experiences differ much from our
(Dutch) culture? We would like this to be first hand / personal experience
from individuals. For example, maybe you have worked with bf mothers (or
breastfed yourself) in different countries and found that their is a great
difference in how you experienced this? Maybe you have been a counsellor /
IBCLC for a very very long term in a particular country and have seen many
changes in how breastfeeding is perceived? Maybe you work / bf in one of
the more obscure corners of the world which does not get much publicity
(from the bf point of view!)?
Thus, basically we are looking for the more personal stories or anecdotes
from other parts of the world that would prove interesting to our readers
(which total around 1600, including mothers, health professionals and
counsellors).
The piece does not have to be long, infact about 400 words is enough, and
would need to be in English (or Dutch of course). If you would like to
contribute to this project then please mail me on or off-lacnet.

Thanks in advance,.

Sara Bernard
The Netherlands (warm and sunny today!)
