Janice, your thoughts on the PR standpoint of the nurse-ins was right on in
my opinion. The question now becomes how do we take all of the energy
currently circulating about breastfeeding activism and build upon it? How
do we get these activists rallied to effect change? We all have women (and
men) in our circles of influence who have been affected by this nurse-
in...everyone knows about it, has been talking about it. Now would be an
opportune time to go forward.

In my opinion, change needs to begin on the smallest of levels...moms being
out and about breastfeeding. It is my hope that someday a mom being out
and about town breastfeeding her baby will be the norm, and of course, the
more moms who are doing just that, the more the "closet" nursers will feel
comfortable to join them. How does that happen?

I guess, then, my main question is: what is going on in everyone's
respective areas, and how can we unite to truly make a difference? I'm
relatively new to the lactation arena, and I apologize if my naivity is in
force, but I have joined a couple of lactation organizations (some
national) and have yet to receive any sort of notification of activities or
committees charged with effecting such change, and I'm not certain where to
begin looking for them. Perhaps my glass is a little too half-full, but
I'm willing to do my part just not quite sure where to start...a little
reminiscient of David and Goliath, eh?
