I just wanted to agree with Rhoda ... those of us who have grown
children are in a good position to illustrate the benefits of child led
weaning. Who can disagree with
the facts? My twenty year old has had his own business since age 15 -
computers. He is running a store front operation while attending
university full time. My sixteen year old is attending a school of
the arts in music and is on the honor roll. Both are socially
confident, independant people. They each weaned in their own time. While
we would not win any longjevity awards in the LLL-IBCLC crowd, they
did continue well beyond the cultural practice in conservative Ottawa.
To the totally uninitiated with whom I have to continue on a social or work
level I often answer they nursed 'well into the second year' (although it was
actually was much longer). I have felt the need protect our privacy while
educating without shocking. Maybe now I need to come out of the closet...
maybe when my eleven year old is a wee bit older. No she's not still
nursing, just still vulnerable.
