Good afternoon,
PTP, I am working with a first-time mom in hospital and baby is 24hrs old and has had one very short intermittent feeding. Helped her this morning latch baby. Baby was fussy, but did finally latch and suckle intermittently, but then became fussy. I helped mom hand express colostrum on Rt. breast and mom had easily expressed colostrum on Rt. breast and blood (bright red). I reassured mom that we do see this sometimes and we decided to hand express on Left breast as well. Pure blood expressed on that side! Any suggestions? We have a call into OB, but I don't think he will be helpful. Should mom feed on left breast or should we have her pump? Thanks in advance!
