I'm wondering if any of you have heard of a requirement like this in your
state. I live in Indiana and it really shocked me when my neighbor told me
this. My neighbor is an in-home licensed child care provider. She is a part
of a food program for child care providers where she is reimbursed for food
expenses up to a set amount per child. Within the last few months there was a
policy change. Previously child care providers in this program were only
required to provide food for babies eating solids. Now they are required to
provide FORMULA for babies as well! If a baby is breastfed and the mom
declines the formula they have to sign a statement stating such. The provider
may choose what brand of formula to provide and parents who have a baby
needing a "special" formula can choose to decline the provided formula and
sign a statement for it too. My neighbor is reimbursed by the food program
every month for any formula she provides now in addition to the other food
subsidy. I asked an IBCLC friend who works at WIC if she was aware of this
and she wasn't. There has to be some overlap with WIC families on this.
